I could honestly understand , someone marrying at 12 or 13 , if your whole life expectancy wasn't more than 40 or so. This is however a little surprising. Not creepy mind you, as arranged marriages are common in many parts of the world and cultures.just surprising.I think even the mother, would have preferred thing to be done a little differently.

traditions whether intentional or not are hard to let go. When I read that and saw gypsy and that the daughter did the same thing as the mother I wasn't surprised at all, even though the mother said she wished her daughter did things differently since the mother had her at 12 I'm sure her daughter felt it was ok for her to do the same. Kids imprint what their lifestyle is when they grow up. if they grow up in a abusive type of lifestyle as much as they don't want to be like that when they grow up they'll end up in that type of lifestyle. my parents had money troubles when I was growing up and I told myself I'd never be like that, sadly I ended up with money troubles and still do. They had a hard time saving money and so do I even if I try my best to save money to take care of the bills I need to take care of I still find that I don't have the money I need to take care of them. So what really happened is centuries of tradition just going on as normal.

I can deal with creepy, this is much worse. This is destruction of human potential. The girl should be in school and getting educated. She and her children are condemned to life of poverty, crime and discrimination, in the name of culture. I have seen the "Roma" begging at the terminals. I have seen them treated like human trash, ignored or collected like garbage and shipped out. I have also seen them stealing and committing a petty crime. This is not culture, this is abuse and assault on human dignity and potential. It is so sad.
