Oh noes, another update.

I'm still moving along on the last chapter of spirit walker. Kinda like the last chapter, this one's a little trickier than I expected, so I'm being careful and not getting ahead of myself.
Being distracted isn't helping. I've been kicking around a new story idea, and you know how it goes, the shinier ball gets more attention until you bat it around long enough to make it dirtier than the other ball. It's something of a reboot of the concept of Draconian Measures, caused by me pondering just what might have happened if the dragons never went into torpor and withdrew from human society instead, hiding themselves for over a thousand years while they kept a clandestine watch on human progression. An "alternate timeline" of a fictional story, as it were.
In this alternate idea, there's no Elder, and there are five races of dragons all sharing the same hidden island: fire, water, sky, earth, and chromatic. To introduce discord in what is otherwise harmonious dragon society, the earth dragons have no magic and are unable to fly, which makes the others really look down their noses at them, but they've embraced human technology and are as computer savvy and technically skilled as a class of scholarship students at M.I.T. The basic plot of the story is what happens when a group of elite government agents, chasing what they've always thought was a small group of international spies that seem to only work for themselves, end up finding out that they've been hunting earth dragons all along. This shocking revelation comes after they corner one and manage to break the item that allows him to move about in a human-like form, and it's caught live on every major news network. Both human and dragon society has to come to terms with the secret being out, even as draconic society has to deal with unrest from the earth dragons, who are getting pretty sick and tired of being treated like something between pond scum and a mother-in-law.
I've kinda sketched out the basics of the idea, and I might pursue it at a later date, but for the moment it's fun to ponder it.
