I just saw this movie review, and found myself agreeing with pretty much everything it said.

Especially that bit in the middle.

And oddly, one of my first reactions was if the Faey ever saw this review, they'd probably laugh their asses off.

Ah, brings back memories...

Don't remember what time of year it came out, so I was either a frosh or sophomore in college, a friend of mine and I decided to go see it with, oh, five minutes until the official start time, hopped on our bikes [the pedaled kind], raced several miles going fast enough we were passing cars, locked up the bikes, bought tickets, and caught the tail end of the previews. Then watched the film.

Afterward, we went downtown and bought the soundtrack, biked on home, he taped it off, I still have the records. Even listen to them every now and then.

Haven't seen the movie since. Haven't really felt any driving need to. Sections I might enjoy seeing again, maybe, but none of it enough to rent it or buy it. The review really did sum it up in regard to quality of production. The fascination with Heavy Metal is akin to the cult status Coors Beer held in Oregon in the 1960's and 1970's, when you couldn't buy it in Oregon since it was non-union, and thus there was this whole underground economy based on Coors Beer smuggling [seriously, I kid you not, for real.] And the products are of comparable worth.

But something he missed in his review. I read Heavy Metal; the film really didn't disappoint if you were looking for something akin to the magazine. The storyline trying to piece the whole thing together, lame, but the individual stories, that was Heavy Metal at it's best. But I read friend's copies of Heavy Metal, I didn't go out and buy it on my own, had better use for my limited funds.
