I once read this cool B5 story, about how there was a database of all human knoledge as well as sci fi. This enspired the EA to attemp to replicate the technology, they had a warp engine and Bsg ftl jump engine, battle mechs. WIth the karinne academy on earth chances are the stundets will see earth sci fi and be enspired. Jason sees the attemps and the research from the academy, and using his ancestors database can adapt them so actually works. SUbujation tech is awesome, but with the new tech available and the war any tech advantage is wanted. so put it as a a competition at the academy and let the magic happen.

i too would love to see how the academy works it's way into the story. Stories are about people. Their triumphs, losses, growth and fatal flaws. Everything else is just window dressing. The academy gives us the opportunity to be introduced to new people and interesting situations and ideas.

There's always human weapons technology. The Faey seem to get all hot under their panties over Jason's 'railgun' but its not exceptional by bleeding-edge human standards. You might actually get much better results by using plasma and a moderator as a direct propellent. Water and dephased (hot) plasma could drive a bullet to higher speeds than the origonal Mark 1 design. A production pulse rifle might siphon nitrogen out of the air, carry a couple of hundred bullets, and fire rounds at 10 miles a second.

Of course basic physics would make such a weapon unfortunately loud. As in 'more so than a rocket engine'. But, you know. Minor tecchnical problems...

IN the imperium, collective and earth these has to be patents, theories, ideas, that didnt work, had no advantage or not possible yet or not yet complete. All these concepts will be brought to the academy as well as alien races as these arent big secrets. These ideas will be collected by cybi who will be able to turn them into something good, combined with the archive database, it is likly to give karrine a good boost.
