Fel idea comes closer to reality

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet; but it struck me funny how Jason Fox railgun is coming closer and closer to life.

the ships already have large electrical generators, so there is the energy available; and it means that you don't have to carry around thousands of tons of fuel and high explosive.
the higher velocity also means less warning at the target.
the downside is the maintenance on the rails of the gun. plasma erosion from a 5 million amp arc is a pain.
