I see a few people have downloaded my effort, but no one has commented, which is slightly disappointing for me.

I am trying this to see if the format is 'passable' for others, but perhaps I should explain my reason for doing it in the first place. You see I am one of those rare people who are bothered by bright light. Which means that looking at anything on a monitor, such as black lettering appearing on a white background, or white lettering appearing on a black background, gives me a massive headache in only a few moments. I hate having to wear sunglasses to read a story on my computer monitor. Thus my attempt to convert any download of any tale I read from the internet into something more pleasantly readable (having a muted background). I admit the rest of my formatting changes are simply cosmetic, but then I like my efforts to be somewhat 'professional' looking and went the extra 'mile'.

If anyone has an opinion about the resulting format, please let me know. Thanks

Oh, I forgot make an announcement that I'd added chapter 4 to my reposting of Fel's story in .html format when I posted it earlier.

(Darn if I can figure out how to delete the old versions though. :? )

Sorry folks, I don't have a spare moment tonight to convert chapter 5 - in fact, I haven't even read it yet.

Can you tell me how to convert any text to sol formatting? I read a lot of other stuff and being able to do it myself would be great.

Here are chapters 1 to 6 in .html format, in both .rar and .zip compression

If you are going to post mulitple compression formats I'd suggest using 7zip with PPMd compression. I've found it gives the best results for html files most of the time. For example I compressed the same files in Shadow Walker-1-6.rar with PPMd in 7zip down to a 135kb file. Hmm well I guess we would need to get Spec to add .7z to allowed extensions. But I think it's worth while to save some bandwidth and storage space to use better compression.

The only places where saving 60KB off a single file is going to make enough of a difference to matter are places where you're probably not going to have 7zip available/installed. Even for 33.6K dialup users it's only another 20 seconds or so.

As for disk space... Yeah, that's really a non-issue.

Actually I got a PM asking for both formats and since that's only a few more keystrokes for me, I'm EZ with it.
Besides, .7z cannot be used in some instances, whereas .zip and .rar are virtually ubiquitous.

I had to live with dialup for 9 years and I still have friends that are stuck on dialup so that's why I care about those things. I just didn't see much point in posting zip and rar since the savings are not that great.

Where can 7zip not be used where zip or rar can be? It's my program of choice for windows since it's freeware and supports almost all compression formats.
