The Chicago Cubs have officially been eliminated from the playoffs. I'm a big Cubs fan, but I think that if the Cubs won the World Series it would be the final sign that the end is upon us. So disaster averted.

Besides, there's always next year.

It has been a proven fact that a proffessional baseball club cannot cause the apocalypse since 1980 when the Phillies won their first and only world series. No club can claim the title as the most inept, unlucky and downright awful franchise from the Phillies. The Phillies were in existance before the Cubs, before the BoSox and both those teams won Championships before the Phillies. It took the Phillies 98 years to win their first championship, the Cubs have been whining about getting another championship before 90 years have passed. Couple that with the Phillies being the first proffesional sports franchise to ever amass 10,000 losses and you can see why if the world didn't end when the Phillies won the series in '80 the Cubs making the Series would have little effect.
