Ok, so I have my new computer being built, they wanted to toss a very nice P45 chipset one in, so i was like sounds good as long as it's an asus Motherboard. so I was reading the review on the one they were going to stick in, and I find out that you cannot SLI 2 nvidia cards on any motherboard that does not have the Nvidia chipset, (you can "crossfire" 2 ati cards thou) so I'm like wait a min, call them up and have them put a 790i chipset motherboard in it..

I never knew that you needed a nvidia chipset to SLI 2 nvidia cards.. Lucky I caught this as I plan on getting another GTX260 to toss into it.

Nvidia creates the hardware on their card to require the Nvidia Northbridge that is on the motherboard for SLI. It's actually not a bad thing, because it offloads part of the processing onto the bridge, versus putting it on the cards and charging all customers for the benefit of SLI that not everyone will use.

well why not allow Intel to add it to there Bridges and just charge them a royalty. I mean Grants "SLI" is a copyrighted name, but I'm not sure how enforceable it is anymore as using 2 Video cards is called a lot of times SLIing even for the ATI cards (and they call theres Crossfire)

Ah well, I got the 790i chipset now so I plan on getting a 2nd GTX260 video card

Might have to get one of those Video PSU's thou, the Main PSU in the system is a 850watt and the GTX 260's require 2 power plugs each.
