Try reading Robert Newcomb's series The Chronicles of Blood and Stone.  He's currently published book three.  Titles thus far:  The Fifth Sorceress, The Gates of Dawn, and The Scrolls of the Ancients.
Another series, this by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter, is A Time Odyssey.  The current novel is Time's Eye.

Another good trilogy is "Darian Tale" by Mercedes Lackey.
This books are in the Valdemar universe. I like some books more than others, but those three are the best IMHO.

This thread started out just Sci Fi, but lately it's just everywhere there's good reading that's kinda scifi/fantasy
Thus, I'd like to introduce LE Modsett's (I hope i spelt it right) "Legacies" which though a bit dry, at least kept me occupied for 4 hours.
Actually, most of his stuff is pretty good, but I think I like the magic of recluse the most

One of my favorite books is Peshawar Lancers, by S.M. Stirling. It's an alt-hist. sci-fi. Hard to describe, but in the 1800s an asteroid hits the earth and to survive the nations of Europe move south. The book starts about a 100 years afterwards and is just great. A good fantasy series is The Dragoncrown War series by Michael Stackpole.

Just read godsend + the 'preview' of godsend part 2... nice works, well written, funny in all the right places, and uses the contrast between different cultures very well.

Being the avid Fantasy reader that I am, these are all Fantasy.
Raymond E Feist's Riftwar Saga and subsequent series:
           Empire Trilogy
           Krondor's Sons
           Serpent War Saga
Conclave of the Shadows (Currently on book 2 but number 3 is due out this year)
17 books total and most are page turners
The Empire Trilogy starts out slow but a good backround if Riftwar Saga captures you
Margret Weis and Tracy Hickmans DeathGate Cycle is also a good series
Mercedes Lackey's
        Alta
        Joust
Sanctuary(Due out in May but judging by the sample chapter
http://www.mercedeslackey.com/books/joust3.shtml will be just as good)
 And with James Mallory
       Out Stretched Shadow
       To Light A Candle
