What kind of heathen are you? ;)
Don't worry Fifer. Vista is VERY remenencent of Max OS X. Stupidly so. I'd link the YouTube video, but for some reason youtube doesn't want to play right now.

They havn't as yet -- and I've been running it (in various forms and capacities) since [s]October[/s] September.

Better? Yes. A ton of various improvements. Many are subtle improvements, others are more obvious.

Speaking of Vista, there was just a commercial on TV about it. The commercial was entitled something to the effect of "Wow," comparing getting Vista to getting a piece of the Berlin Wall, a Child's first snow, and a few other things. I thought it was rather cheezy, but what do you expect?

I installed Vista on Tuesday, been running fine for me, I had to disable the User accounts, I had 1 user, and he was Admin level, but it kept telling me Can "so and so" save a file on C:\

That also the Power saving stuff I had to turn that off.

Hey, I never said their advertising campaigns were any good.

The best thing the MS PR Folks have ever made was the Microsoft iPod Spoof.

Edit: Oh, and yes - it was created by Microsoft PR, as an internal thing - aimed at themselves.

Uhm... not sure why you were getting prompted - were you trying to save to one of the protected locations? like Program Files, Windows, etc?

The UAC stuff can get slightly annoying, but it's there for a reason (no, not to piss off users - but to prevent programs from doing stupid things - like installing addons to your browser without your OK, or stuffing with network/computer settings, etc.)

And yes, saving files to Program Files & the Windows directory is a stupid thing for a developer to be doing in this day and age.

Aplpication settings & Files (for all users of the PC)? Use %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\

Application settings & Files (just for your user)? Use %APPDATA%

That's great...but they forgot the part about increasing package size until you have to hunt for the product inside through all the packaging and advertisements, which you throw away only to realize that the instructions were in the advertisements somewhere. So you dig through the trash for the instructions, only to find out that they're worthless.

Who needs instructions?

1) Open Box
2) Throw away everything that isn't the product.
3) ...?
4) Profit!

err... wait.

I don't. But the one time that I didn't include the instructions with a machine I built for someone, they basically blew a gasket. So to avoid that, I give them all the little strips of paper that come out of the boxes of components. It's also job security, cause they try to do something to it, then bring it back to me saying that it doesn't work. Yay for shop fees.
