I think catapults make ships able to surf along a hyperspace wave to a location.
So while it is possible to potentially jump through an indicted region of space, it takes omputing, power and lots of knowledge on the indiction system and the engines themselves. Current ships for the enemy are just not on that level yet. THeir best solution is to use a realspace ftl system, one that uses hyper light and the other alters mass. We dont kn ow if these system are compatable with each other, but it is suspected that hyperlight and hyperspace can be combined. It is potentially a way for the karrines to take the war to home galxcy of the bad guys.
THe other ftl system is also in a catapult form. SInce there is a hyperspace catapult, i wonder if there is a indpendant version of ftl fitted to a ship, and a dedicated system version that remains in position for the ships. So it might mean there is a catapult for hyperlight, while the mass altering system could be placed on a ship. THe thing is can the ftl system be scaled down for projectiles and torpedoes and missiles. We know hter are hyperjump capable missiles, are there version for the other systems? real space ftl weaponry, would make battles in or near indicted space easier for one side due they can attack far outside the range of the other.
It seems like puting jump enines on an indictor would be tricky, but what about one of the real space ftl system. They might be slower than jump engine, but it could easily move an indictor around a system as needed.

My idea is to put the interdictor into hyperspace to protect it; not to move it. If its in hyperspace and just holding its position, but is still capable of interdicting the space around it, it would be untouchable in a battle. We know the Karinne and the Kimdori hyperspace spy probes can hold their position in hyperspace while inside interdicted space so the interdictor should also be able to. So the question remains, can the interdictor still interdict space when its in hyperspace instead of real space?SYED wrote: It seems like puting jump enines on an indictor would be tricky, but what about one of the real space ftl system. a device designed to disrupt hyper space, might not be possible to keep stable in the same place.

In their current incarnation, no. They need to be in normal space, else the interdiction effect feeds back into the power system like a torsion effect and starts overloading systems. The teryon antennae are just too close to the power generation system to make it work in hyperspace.kyli wrote:My idea is to put the interdictor into hyperspace to protect it; not to move it. But give Myleena a few years, she might find a workaround, at least if she ever decides there's a need to park interdictors in hyperspace.

Just another guy from the shallow end of the gene pool.

I would expect that if you could put the interdicter in hyperspace that the power requirement per unit volume effected would go down drastically. Basically it seems like there should be a power cost to effecting hyperspace from normal space that would just not be present if the interdiction were taking place from hyperspace to begin with. And that might be a reason to do the research, if just one interdicter could be made to do the work that now requires more than a hundred that would be a huge gain.
Re: Book 5 - Karis Battle
It would be useful in offensive warfare as well if the interdictor could deploy and not have to worry about getting destroyed once it activates. And if they could put a Cloaking System on it; LOOK OUT UNIVERSE!!!! They probably couldn't run the interdictation and CMS at the same time, but if the enemy can't even see but interdictor deploy, then their window to destroy it is even smaller.
