Chapter 9 of "Sword of Fire"

Post by Shadowhawk »

But Dolannas magic turned out to be not needed, for Miranda stepped up and displayed the little known ability of Priests to use their magic offensively. Miranda knew any number of powerful combat spells, and she used them against the church soldiers, disrupting them, banishing the Demon that was leading them, breaking them up and giving the two Knights and the Were-wolf enough of an advantage to finish off groups of more numerous adversaries.
Should it not be "great number of spells"? Or is it my lack of fluency in English speaking?
Tarrin looked to the tent flap, where he saw Jals presented back. The boy had turned around after Kimmie sat up and exposed her breasts, but did not leave. Jal, he called. The boy didnt turn around, but turned his head slightly. Go to my tent and get my saddlepack.
Didn't Mist take the Tarrin's spellbook to give it to Kimmie (to have Kimmie teleport them or something like that to the camp)? I guess she did returned it to the Tarrin's bag. But how he knew that?

BTW. I wonder how The One protected its icon from the lava... Or maybe it could not be harmed by it? I think that it is it...

About the gate to Sennadar. Could not Phandebrass along with Tarrin, Dolanna and the Goddess restrict the gate that only the souls could get through? By some kind of ward (e.g. killing ward on both sides, Pyrosia and Sennadar, of the gate/portal) or creative spellcasting? Then they would have to go to Sennadar via Astral and "the Gate" guarded by Spyder, with Miranda help. But this could be easier for other Sennadar gods to agree to.

Great chapter, by the way !!! I'm waiting for the next one.
BTW. I like the new look of HTML version of the chapters of "Sword of Fire".

The icon of a God can only be harmed by something Devine or Demonic, ex. Tarrins sword. The lava is nether, so it can't do any harm.

Did Tarrin told the others that All awakened on Pyrosia during his fight with One God? Even if the All of Pyrosia is weak compared to All of Sennadar it means that Druids in the team (Sarraya, Haley and maybe Tarrin if he can use his Druidic abilities) can use their spells. It can be an advantage.

Although I'm not sure about telling Sarraya... (hmmm.... she do not use Druidery ;) in her mischiefs, didn't she?).

They didnt try it with an Elder god? Haley asked.

Miranda laughed. Hon, you dont toy with gods who can kill you with a thought, she answered him. Elder gods can do that, especially if youre one of their Priests who has gone awry. Ayise doesnt give a flip if you smack down one of the mortals who follows you. Its entirely an internal matter. You cross an Elder, and hell drop you dead on the spot. The kizadun was very wise to keep them at arms length.
How it is then that kizadun did infiltrate Sorcerers Tower in Suld (Jule and Mind Seat - I don't remember her name)? Full Sorcerers are like Priests for other gods, and Niame is Elder God.

Sorcery is an inborn ability, which people draw on once they get old enough.  Niami could be decieved as long as any full katzi-dashi didn't cast the minor Priest spells given to them.  Like Tarrin said, the Weave's magic is Niami's way of giving her power to her children.  Since she can't truly say yes or no to whatever is being cast by the Sorcerer, she most likely can't peer into their minds.  The Priest spells, like Niami said, has to be given to each person on a person-by-person basis so she'd be able to look closer.

Hmmm... the Mind Seat and Jule were katzi-dashi if I remember correctly. I guess they did not use Priest spells then. Figures.

BTW. it means that only truly loyal to Goddess can become Weavespinners (any kind)...

No, that is also inborn, at least Sui'kun. However, they shoulden't be able to hide from her, so she can 'correct' them, or send them to someone who can...

The Da'Shar wouldn't be able to hide it either, remember, when it happens, you go before the eyes of the Goddess in the Heart.  If you have anything BUT love for her in your heart, I doubt you're gonna make it back.

Yeah, and Weavespinner magic needs you to send your love into the weave to the goddess, otherwise you have to fight to do anything with it. And who would be able to fake love being sent directly into the extention of an Elder God? Not me, that's for sure.

Whats more, one can use Weavespinner magic only after the transition. This means facing being Consumed. Only opening oneself to the Goddess can change it into transition to true (active) Weavespinner (if I remember and understand correctly, of course). And I think that it requires true, unconditional love for Goddess to open oneself like that; at least it requires complete trust in Niame.

And after the transition, in the Hearth, you are baring your soul to Goddess; and seeing her truly. Could anybody hide something from her in this moment? I don't think so.

In Weavespinner the Goddess can trust ;)

The "Transitition" may also be a way for the goddess to insure that no one , who is not loyal to her and her people gain the kind of power that a weavespinner weilds.those who are disloyal don`t survive the process.( it works for me)

I really don't think that the transition to Weavespinner was made, was meant as some kind of trial or something like that. Please remember that even the most loyal and loving the Goddes Sorceres can be consumed... and probably many were lost in this way. Even full Sorcerers (what is the word? katzi-dashi I think) to whom Niami gave immortality and Priest magic, her truly loyal servants has died. And every death probably hurt her, hurt her much. Do you remember how frantic was she when Jenna was almost Consumed?

But nevertheless Weavespinning is sharing somewhat of a communion (?) with Goddess. Closer, more intimate than giving Priests they magic. Niami is the Goddess of magic on Sennadar, the Goddess of Weave. And to be good ate Weavespinning, as Spyder said, you must treat it as an art - with love.

I just hope that I made it clear what I meant.

This is 996 post and counting...

The point of even the most loyal dying doesn't mean much, remember the Sha'kar said that even back then some didn't survive it.  Some people just can't find the Heart.  But still, if you try to find the Heart and actually worship someone else, I don't think that you'd be able to hide it at that time.

I think that it might be the case, that if you worship someone else, you won't be able to survive the transition, to open themselves to the power of the Weave and not become Consumed. This is where absolute trust (which comes with love) in Goddess is needed.

I wonder what would happen if somebody survived transition (not become Consumed) but did not find the Heart. This is where love, searching for Goddess is needed.
