I have a home and student 2013 version it will let me download and product key along with the current version I use bought the 2016 for 2 computers home and laptop. I agree subscription sucks. You could always go the Linux route... It would probably run better on the old computer anyway.

I've been on a litrpg/gamelit genre reading kick for a while now, I am very much enjoying the Citadel Online sub series. The fact that it's part of the Subjugation Universe is just so much added bonus!
