updatish things
Re: updatish things
I didn't say it was a bad thing, I just said he did it. I don't care one way or the other really.

That is only too true Fiferguy. You travel a lot or work at an airport?fiferguy wrote:That really helps when you pick up a new book in an airport without realizing it's a series...kind of confusing if they don't do that...

It's not just a travel thing, though. I can't count the number of series I've read in the wrong order because my library (sometimes the entire library system) won't get the missing volumes.

Agreed! I have the exact same problem.

Re: updatish things
I travel quite a bit, actually. Sometimes, I'll pick up a book just to have something to pass the time, and find out after the first chapter that I started on like book 3 of a series. It's a pain in the butt, actually.
Lawhead's "Pendragon Cycle" was like that for me. I read "Avalon" first, which if you're familiar with the series is like book 6 of a 6 book series. The way he does the series, only the first 5 read like a series, and the sixth is more like a stand alone book. However, reading the first 5 makes the final book make a lot more sense.
That's why I'm glad Fel puts some back story into his books. It's nice to know where one really is when you start a new book.
