Fel a Questions on Tarrin.. (Spoiler maybe)

Post by Hearly »

Ok, at the end of SoF, When Tarrin is in that Plane, they make mention that his soul is that of a God, but very very weak..

Why is his Soul very very weak? If I remeber correctly, when they talked about Val, that he was somewhere inbetween an Elder god, and a younger god in "strength"

Wouldn't Tarrin's soul be just as strong, as his soul was created in Sennadar, which is the Highest "magic" potential Mortal plane?

Did moving most of his Divine power to the sword mean he moved most of his soul to the sword?

No, it's been said before somewhere here on the forum, (or it might have been in the IRC channel), that Tarrin still has his divine abilities, and because he's stalking the One, he is subconsciously using them to hide himself. Therefore he seems weaker then he really is.

Ah, ok, must have been in IRC as I don't remeber a post like that, But the One know's he's coming, whats the point of "hiding" his powers, and how could one Hide there soul?

The One may know he's coming, but Tarrin's not about to come up and ring the doorbell and say "Here I am, come smite me." *grins*

Yah, true. But you're also making the mistake in applying human reasoning only. Remember, Tarrin is half-human, at most. Now, he's going to be a cat, stalking it's pray. It's natural, and instinctual, to hide when stalking. (Not to mention necessary)

I think were forgetting that Tarrin put almost all of his power into the sword and it is not with so that is why he is really weak now.

Not entirely. It's true that he put his divine powers into the sword, and became mortal. But, the sword is an extension of himself. Bring them together, and he'll be able to use it all again.

However, that is irrelevant right now, as it is his soul that matter where he is. And his soul is still divine. Ergo, a God of strong power, hiding in a way that makes him seem much weaker then he really is. (As for the power, remember that even a strong magic-user from Sennadar could become like a God on some other world. The Gods are on a much greater scale.)

In addition to that, the Sword of Fire allowed him (and was the only gateway) to use his power in material world. He put all his (or all that he could) divine powers in his sword... and then broke it. But remember that he granted himself Priest spells and granted a Wizard's Wish... I think without involving mediation of sword or wings.

So I think (but I might be wrong), that his wings and swords functions something like icon for "normal" Gods. With divine power put in sword and broken he is like God with destroyed icon.

But for definite answer you should ask Fel. Maybe Lochar will know it for sure as well...

Heh.  I could bring up the question of if Tarrin died mortal, that means his soul was mortal, not divine.  Remember what happened to Val.  A divine soul without a link into a home plane where the god truly resides is a soul destroyed.

And in the place Tarrin was at, nothing mortal could survive.  How would a mortal soul of Tarrin's make it there?

He used the All of Pyrosia, which is literally the power of the Elder God there that ran away to throw himself there.  Could he also have subconciously protected his mortal soul from being destroyed by taking up the mantle of Elder God of Pyrosia?

Oh, and as for the original question (LOL) Tarrin's sword was at first just the symbol of Tarrin's inability to accept that he was a god.  That's why the more he came to accept it, the more power he was able to draw from it.  The sword acted as a gate into Tarrin's divine powers, with the gate opening more as Tarrin grew to accept his position in life.

When he sacreficed his wings and his divine ability into the sword, he did about the same thing that the Elder God of Pyrosia did, in making something that has no real will, but a whole lot of power.  Tarrin was able to easily use it unlike the All of Pyrosia, because it was a familar power to him.  Someone like the Demon Lord, while it would not be a familiar power, has the mental capicity to direct that power.

Anyone that gets the whole sword of Tarrin's is carrying around the power akin to a Sennadar Elder God, but without the guiding mind to it.

Lochar,

That wasn't the orignal question, the orignal question was why is Tarrin's soul so "weak"

LOL, sorry.  Last thing I read was about the sword, so I thought that was the original question.  Teach me to think...

Hola amigos

That question also occured to me.
I can't quite work up the enthusiasm of being bothered with it right now, since it's almost a dead issue with subj 10 still hot out of the oven and the next pyrosian book so far away in the future...But hey speculation for it's own sake is entertaining too  :)

I must say I did not like finding him so weak. especially on a plane of existence where gods are supposed to be extremely powerfull. especially a soul that has ascended hrough the firestaff, which is supposed to make gods that almost rival an elder.  All the explanations I read made sense. But still the soul of a God is the soul of a God is the soul of a God! lol  :'(
you destroy a god Icon on the physical plane, and you hurt him pretty bad. you don't seal his power. yeah no God ever destroyed his own Icon. but....heck why am I complaining? I know Fel is preparing the ground for the third book. there are so so many possibilities...And I must admit he was getting a tad too powerfull...But stilll...  also did not like the possibility of someone acquiring his power just by finding and reuniting his sword. It's sucfh a liabiity it's scary. the only good point is Demonbane. hehe. wonder what will hapen if it's HIM that reunites the sword? lol:-/ :-[ :)
It just hard to go back to a toyota whan you are driving a rolls ya know lol kinda feel nacked... let nobody ghet that sword!!!
