Australia: It's a f'ing disaster
Current, or recent natural disasters in Australia:
Queensland: Record Floods covering approx 2/3 of the state, and Multiple Cyclones. As of posting, being hit by a Category 5 or above Cyclone (TC Yasi, Winds at 290 KPH, or 170 MPH)
New South Wales: Floods, and Bushfires.
Victoria: Floods and Bushfires.
Western Australia: Cyclones
South Australia and the Northern Territory: Risk of Bushfire
Tasmania: Dunno, havn't heard word from them.. they may have sunk.
The national broadcaster had a live webcam from someone in the path of Cyclone Yasi... and I just recorded this little gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UemHueHNY8
FWIW: Live stream of the Cyclone coverage http://www.abc.net.au/abcnews24

And the Snakes.
And the Spiders.
And the Crocs.
And the Box Jellyfish.
And the Blue Ringed Octopus.
And the Tasmanian Devil Cancer.
Still, it is a beautiful country and a nation of battlers, and you'll bounce back.
Rational people have supported the worst dictators of history - Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.
I'm mad - at least I have an excuse for what I do.

Its totally fucked up. It really is.
Those poor bastards up in Queensland , cant just score a break. Bloody Floods and now a Fucking cyclone. New south wales (My home state) isn't doing that crash hot either.Throw in Victoria , Western Australia South Australia and the northern territory . like speccy said the only place that's hasn't been (as of yet) is that little island off the mainland called Tasmania.
Its fucking insane , is what it is. I cant ever remember a year so bad and whilst i might live in the US ,its no question that i ( any expat for that matter ) really do call Australia home.Right now ,its close to my heart and in my prayers as well.

Was speaking to a lady i know, who her folks live in Melbourne. She was telling me that they were suffering from flooding and rising waters !
I honestly thought for a moment, she was pulling my leg.It never floods in Melbourne, its almost unheard of!! Its almost like saying that there is major flooding in NYC , it just doesn't happen.yet here it is. Bloody unbelievable. WTF is going on??

you missed the cyclone which just hit darwin -- apparently they have set a new all-time record for the most rain in February (840mm), and there is still a fair portion of Feb left.

I believe something like 99% of Queensland is currently eligible for disaster relief (1,730,648 km2 is the total area of QLD - ( France (674,843 km2) + Spain(505,992) + Germany (357,114)+ United Kingdom (242,900))
http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/weat ... 6019344042
several places have had 2M of rain recently ... and the rain is continuing.

Re: Australia: It's a f'ing disaster
They prayed for rain after the recent drought. Guess they got a bit more than expected...
