Christchurch Earthquake New Zealand

Post by RobJ »

At 1pm local time in Christchurch New Zealand the South Islands largest City a 6.3 scale earthquake struck with its centre 10kms from the City at a depth of 5kms. This follows the 7.1 earthquake in September 2010. The City was just recovering and now it is a War Zone in appearance. I am watching devastating scenes on TV as the people try to cope with this tragedy. New Zealand is a very small country with only 4.3 million people so it affects us all in some form or other. 65 people as I write this are confirmed dead with over 200 still trapped in collapsed buildings. I have a nephew at university in Christchurch and he thankfully is safe and sound. My son is studying two hours travel away and he is safe having thankfully not felt the direct effects of the earthquake. To any members who may live in Christchurch or near surrounds my thoughts and prayers are with you. It is at times like this that life takes on a very special meaning.

Regards,
RobJ

Beautiful place, great people.

My prayers are with them.
Rational people have supported the worst dictators of history - Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.

I'm mad - at least I have an excuse for what I do.
