I don't know what you're talking about - it's just a regular username and password, as it has been for years.

Think he was referring to airports...

Possibly a bitter joke that soon similar levels of security will be omnipresent in our lives, including on internet forums.Spec8472 wrote:then why the reference to 'log on' in the subject, ... ?Flame_Champion wrote:Think he was referring to airports...

there are relativly good and secure login mechanisms -- see openid -- which don't need more than 1 sophisticated login location ; i imagine it might even be possible to integrate it into an OS so that people can create their own id without needing a third party google, yahoo, etc... id.
banks do that at the moment -- i've run into websites which will charge your visa using an intermediate secure visa website, so the end merchent doesn't get your cc details, just the transaction authorisation -- sort of like a paypal account, but just utilizing visa itself.
I don't think there will be any need for security measures beyond what we have now. I've got my computer set to need my fingerprint to log in, but at a base level it still isnt encrypted, so vulnerable to taking the HD out. On the other hand, random forums like this one, and 20 others storing my pasword is more of a risk than google itself getting hacked. I know that a couple of other forums using openid are fine -- if they get done over, my account isn't comprimised, but other than that i don't think that there is any easy way to make life more secure on the computer front.
Its secure enough that banks will let me transfer money, after i authenticate myself, so they have confidence in password based systems.
