So, that sports team...

Post by Journeywoman »

Because it is oh so quiet here at the moment (and I am bored), lets start a discussion about that sports team. Which sports team I hear you say? Um, does it matter?

*Birds twittering in an otherwise silent forum*

Well I suppose it does matter. So, what is your favorite sport to watch and to play? Also, if you could compete in any sport in the Olympics, no matter how outlandish the proposition is, what would it be and why?

Hrm, my favorite sport to watch is ironically probably cricket. The alternatives being AFL and Tennis round here, which I avoid like the plague. This is of course barring the Olympics right now, which I don't mind watching. You definately have to have patience to enjoy Cricket, its a great procrastination tool :). It's best watched by either sitting down all day and watching it or having it on TV in the background and checking throughout the day so you can get a feel for what is going on. The minute of big hits and outs, which the news portray just don't do justice to the strategy involved. Its definately a favorite summer past time :) .

Favorite sport to play would be Badminton. Requiring super speed but not necessarily super fitness :P (unless you are seriously competing).

I think it would be cool competing in the gymnastics. Being that damn flexible and fearless would be awesome!

Is making fun of loud mouthed, trash talking, ultimate choke french swimmers a sport?

If it is that would be mine.

I have competed at the provincial level of Judo for a number BC games in Canada, though not very recently. I enjoy a lot of the martial sports, but unfortunately, not many of those are team sports.

(I can just picture the grand melee, or perhaps free for all that could inspire...)

As for team sports, hands down, no pun intended, football (soccer for all you americans) is prob the best one. As Matt Damion put it in Dogma, "Nothing is quite as exhausting as chasing a ball and playing soccer. Well maybe genocide." or something to that effect. I've never managed to finish a game where I actually played hard without loosing at least 1 or 2 kg of body mass.

But for overall fun and mayhem, my favorite is hands down, paintball. Only sport I know where you are encouraged to jump down a ravine to avoid being shot by a 12 year old, or he gets bragging rights he knocked out his uncle the big bad player. :)
I'd gladly travel back in time, except I would have to wait longer for the next chapter of Fel's work...sorry, pass.

Cricket is like baseball. A bunch of guys stand around in a field. Every now and then there's a little bit of activity, then it all goes quiet again. (And, yes, I'll get shot from both sides for saying that)

Not really a sports fan, but I will watch a bit of the Olympics - Road Cycling, Beach Volleyball, A bit of the swimming and track. There has to be something happening, else I'll find something else to watch. Ohwell.

I have Just returned from Sydney after absence of almost 18 years.( Nearly half my life!)

Almost Nothing tops watching my beloved Roosters on the telly , whilst eating a meat pie , drinking a VB(beer). That's pure heaven.Sydney for those who don't know ,is predominately a Rugby (league) playing town. Along with Queensland , we are the Rugby league capital of Australia. Rugby Union is a national sport, in which our team the Wallabies ,play against nations such as New Zealand's famous ' All blacks' England, South Africa, France and others. You want to see something pretty intimidating, check out the "Haka" Maori war dance, preformed by NZ on Utube.

Olympics--Go Aussie GO!

If I had been there in the summer, then you wouldn't have been able to rip me away from the telly, cause when the cricket is on, every thing else ceases to exist. I can personally testify of staying up to two in the morning (NYC time), listing to the cricket and then repeating it for the next five days , for five whole test matches!! I was so bloody knacked by the end of it.I went to purchase a cricket bat , (even though its the off season,) and had a lovely yap with one of the sales people. He told me , that whilst Rugby has proved to remain the Number one winter sport, Soccer has had a real lift in popularity following the success of Australia in the last world cup.

My (American )son has fallen in love with my cricket bat to the extent that he even went to sleep with it last night.Kind of reminds me of someone else I know.
